Dr. William Vance Gilbert Jr.

            Dr. William Vance Gilbert, Jr., 78, received his heavenly homecoming on Friday, July 29, 2022. He was born in Spartanburg County to William Vance Gilbert, Sr. & Mary Louise Gilbert. He was the owner of Gilbert Chiropractic & Myotherapy Clinic in Inman, SC where he practiced as a chiropractor for 48 years.  Alongside him faithfully working was his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann Gilbert.

            As a child, he suffered with asthma. His mother took him to a chiropractor to see if he could help.  Because he experienced relief for the first time in his life, he wanted to become a chiropractor himself to help others.  When he was a young husband & father, he moved the family to Davenport, Iowa so he could attend Palmer College of Chiropractic, the first college of chiropractic.  He graduated in 1974 with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree.  He practiced in Mississippi prior to returning home to be near family. Dr. Gilbert knew the Lord called him into his profession & he worked to help others until the Lord called him home.

            Because of his servant’s heart, he volunteered as a leader of Boy Scout Troop Inman Mills 26 for 42 years.  He served in a number of roles including Scoutmaster.  He was honored with The Scoutmaster Award of Merit, The Palmetto Council Award, & The Silver Beaver Award for his time & dedication in shaping the lives of young boys. He was also a mason & belonged to the Lone Oak Masonic Lodge 372 & Delmar Masonic Lodge 422. Later, he became a Shriner then became a member of the Hillbilly Clan #2. He took great pride in serving the Inman community as President of Inman Chamber of Commerce, director of the Harvest Day Festival, & as a member of the Rotary Club.

            Our sweet daddy and grandfather leaves behind a son, Todd Gilbert (Angie), and two daughters, Missy Reel (Chad), & Regina Catto (Jason). He had 6 precious grandchildren that were the lights of his life: Justin Gilbert (Marissa), Jake Gilbert, Bradley Reel, Carson Reel, Blake Reel, and Harleigh Catto. He was loved by so many of his friends, patients, cousins, nieces, & nephews. His smile, positive attitude, & hugs will be missed by so many.  Our family has great comfort in knowing he is with our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ.

            Visitation will be held at Harris-Nadeau Mortuary on Tuesday, August 2, at 3:00. The funeral will be immediately following at 4:00.  Services will be conducted by Rev. Sean Fortner & Rev. Chad Reel. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or the Shriners Hospital.
