Ernest Bishop
Chesnee, SC.
William Ernest Bishop, 83, husband of Patricia Bishop, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024 at his home.
In addition to his beloved wife Patricia, Ernest is survived by his younger brother Billy Bishop and children: W. Caroll Bishop, Melvin D. Bishop, Dale J. Bishop, and daughter Christine B. Horton. He also leaves behind his stepchildren Wendy Burrell, Tina Stacey, and Daniel Johnson, along with 15 grandchildren (affectionately known as rugrats) and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving parents William “Bill” M. and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzy” Bishop, his brothers Melvin H. Bishop, J. Oliver Bishop, and his sister Shirley Cantrell.
Ernest was truly a “Jack of all trades,” but what will stand out in our memories is his relentless cheerfulness. He greeted everyone with an endearing “Hello, it’s me, it’s me, it’s Ernest T,” despite the fact that “T” wasn’t one of his initials. Ernest was a humble man who never took himself too seriously. Alongside his trusty sidekick, “Rocky” the dog, he never met a stranger. They were a familiar sight in many a drive-thru, holding up the line as they chatted up the workers, ensuring everyone acknowledged both him and Rocky.
Ernest was always the dependable backup plan – ready to step in when the babysitter didn’t show up, the grass needed cutting, or when there was a need for guidance on working on a car, lawnmower, or any random home project. He was always willing to share a fishing or gardening story, and he never missed an opportunity to engage in a long conversation. Ernest had an infectious way of including others and a remarkable ability to marvel at the simple joys in life. He was a caring soul, always willing to sit and offer a sympathetic ear and an understanding smile to those in need.
He will be fondly remembered as a fun character who dearly loved his family and friends. His endless sense of humor always brought a smile to those around him. May he rest in peace and forever revel in the grand homecoming he undoubtedly received from those who went before him.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Harris-Nadeau Mortuary.
