Melvin Franklin Lawter, 81, husband of Susan Elder Lawter went home to be with the Lord, Monday, March 11, 2024 at Regional Hospice Home.

Born December 28, 1942 in Cooley Springs, he was the son of the late Major Lee Lawter and Lillaree Wilson Lawter. He worked many years at Arrow Automotive and TNS Mills and later retired from Spartanburg County School District Two. He a member of Cooley Springs Baptist Church and was a member of the Chesnee Masonic Lodge #294. 

Surviving in addition to his wife is his son, Alan Lawter and wife Cristy of Cooley Springs; daughter-in-law, Monica Lawter of Chesnee; grandchildren, Marissa Lawter, Courtney Paige Lawter and Caleb Nabors.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, David Lawter and a sister, Statia Wood.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Harris-Nadeau Mortuary.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in the chapel of Harris-Nadeau Mortuary with Rev. Dave Deland officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Springhill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive Spartanburg, SC 29303.
