Mary "Pauline" Lawter, widow of Roosevelt Lawter, passed away early in the morning on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in her Cowpens home. She was born on September 9, 1930, to the late Summie Lee and Pearl Humphris Scruggs. She was a homemaker her adult life and was a member at Buck Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Wesley Dale Lawter (Rosie) of Cowpens, daughter, Judy Lawter Gregg (Terry) of Columbus, North Carolina, sister, Juean Bishop of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, daughter-in-law, Edith Lawter of Mayo, grandchildren, Noel Lawter (Ali), Mark Lawter (Leslie), Nick Lawter, Winston Lawter (Abby), Logan Lawter, Damon Lawter (Amy), Sheryl Lawter Whitt (Chuck), Travis Gregg (Amy), Tamara Gregg Richardson (Jody), and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Marshall Wayne Lawter and brothers, Leroy, Elford and Bud Scruggs.
Receiving of friends will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, 1:00 - 1:50 pm in the chapel of Harris Nadeau Mortuary. Funeral services will follow beginning at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Wes Henderson of Agape Hospice and the Rev. Todd Lyda officiating. Burial will be held in Buck Creek Baptist Church Cemetery where she will be laid to rest a long side her husband.
The Family will be at 240 Community Rd., Cowpens, SC 29330.
