Johnny Richard “Richie” Wortman, 53, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born September 13, 1971 in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Marvin Gary Wortman, Sr. and Mildred Elaine Childers Wortman. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where he was a member of the Singles Ministry Life Group.
Richie’s life was filled with love, kindness, and laughter. He loved his family and friends unconditionally and would do anything for them. He had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood and was always ready with a joke or silly impression. He loved music, and especially loved playing the guitar and singing for his loved ones.
Survivors include his niece and caretaker, Brittany Spisak (Michael) of Greensboro; great-niece, Laila Spisak of Greensboro; aunts Kathy Curtis of Spartanburg, Brenda Guinn of Spartanburg; sister-in-law, Cynthia Wortman Stepp (Donald) of Cross Hill; cousins, Tina Brown (George) of Ridgeland, Georgia, Lori Abernathy (Garrison) of Boiling Springs, David Grant (April) of Spartanburg, Julia Roberts of Spartanburg, Cole Turner of Spartanburg; special friend and caretaker, Mary Wilcox. In addition, Richie is survived by many friends who loved him dearly, including the Hayes, Rowe, Dills and Wilcox families, as well as the Singles Ministry Life Group.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Marvin Gary Wortman Jr.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, Davis Chapel. Funeral services will follow in Davis Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Mrs. Sherry Smith and Rev. Sal Barone officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
Family members are at their respective homes.
