John Wesley Wykel, Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October18, 2024, in Chesnee, South Carolina. Born on March 24, 1949, in small town of Jefferson, Georgia, John led a life filled with hard work, love and service to his country as a proud U.S. Army Veteran, John's dedication extended beyond the battlefield, reflecting his resilience and commitment throughout his life. After serving his country, he honed his skills and became a talented welder, dedicating many years to his craft and supporting his family with pride.
John's family was his greatest treasure. He is survived by his beloved wife, Paula Cole Wykel, who stood by his side through life’s many challenges and joys. Together, they built a warm and loving home that was a gathering place for family and friends. He cherished his two daughters, Susan Jackson and her husband Wayne, and Leatha Ramsey and her husband Mike, who brought immeasurable joy and pride into his life. As a grandfather, John found great happiness in the achievements of his grandchildren: Casey Kilpatrick and her husband Logan, Dylan Ramsey and his wife Sarah, and John Jackson with his fiancé Danny. The light in his eyes grew brighter with the arrival of his three great-grandchildren, who brought new laughter and love into his life.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Wykel Sr. and Willie Mae Edwards Wykel, whose love and teachings shaped him into the man he became. He also mourned the passing of his sister, Judy Styles, whose memory remained close to his heart.
In addition to his family, John leaves behind a community of friends and acquaintances who admired him for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. He had a unique ability to connect with others, often sharing his experiences and laughter. His gentle presence and warm smile will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
John Wesley Wykel, Jr. lived a life rich with purpose, dedication, and unconditional love. As we gather to celebrate his life, we remember the laughter, lessons, and love he shared with us, holding his memory close as we navigate our lives without him by our side.
