James Broughton Gilbert

Broughton Gilbert Chesnee, SC James Broughton Gilbert, 88, widower of Mary Littlejohn Gilbert, of 315 Jonas Circle went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born June 19, 1930 in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Daniel Pink Gilbert and Meldora Henderson Gilbert. He proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. He was retired from Drayton Mills and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. Surviving is his son, James Daniel “Buddy” Gilbert of the home; grandchildren, Katie Lemmons and husband Ben, Kourtney Yelton and husband Jacob, Kylie McKinney and a great-grandchild, Presley Aerin Lemmons. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Diana McKinney; brothers, Gene and Sam Gilbert and sisters, Mildred Gilbert, Myrtle Pogue, Louise Pogue, Denishie Martin, Pearl Mahaffey and Nina Mae Cantrell. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Piedmont Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Robbins officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service at the church. The family is at the home.
