Gary F. Cooley, Sr.     1935---1-15-2023

Gary Foster Cooley,Sr. 87, of Mayo, S.C. was born March 9, 1935 to the late John Sumter Cooley and Elizabeth Foster Cooley. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his sons, at Hospice Home in Spartanburg, S.C. after several months of declining health.

He was a member of Brooklyn Baptist Church and was a lifelong resident of Mayo, S.C.

He was a plasterer by trade and was previously employed by Henry Bonner Plastering Co. As long as his health allowed, he could be found on various flea markets, selling and trading, which he thoroughly loved doing.

Gary is survived by two sons: Gary (Frosty) (Beth) Cooley, Spartanburg, S.C. and Stephen J. Cooley, Fort Mill, S.C. Granddaughters: Olivia Cooley (Charles Pulliam) Columbia, S.C. and Rachel (Rory) McEathron Winston Salem, N.C. and one great-granddaughter Jude P. Cooley, Columbia, S.C. 

Survivors also include his longtime companion Gladys Quinn and brother Edward (Eddie) Cooley of Mayo.

He was predeceased by three sisters: Jenny Lou Bailey, E. Ann Foster and Rosemary Cooley. Seven brothers: William (Bill) Cooley, David Cooley, Jack Cooley, John Cooley, Ronnie Cooley, Michael (Mike) Cooley and Glenn Cooley. Maternal grandparents: Jenny Mae Fleming Foster and William AT Foster. Paternal grandparents: Louise Bonner Cooley and James Young Cooley.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023 at Harris-Nadeau Mortuary. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Harris-Nadeau Mortuary with Reverend Clay Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Brooklyn Baptist Church Cemetery.
