Forrest Lee Bridges, son of the late William and Rachel Hopper Bridges, was born on December 19, 1949, in Chesnee, South Carolina. He attended Chesnee High School and graduated from the University of South Carolina. At an early age, he professed his faith in Christ and was a faithful attendee of Cooley Springs Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church of Landrum. During his time at Cooley Springs Baptist, he taught the young adult Sunday School class.
Forrest is survived by his wife Joan of forty-seven years; his daughters, Heatherly McGarity (Cameron) and Sommer Trebilco (Jonathan) of Campobello, SC; his daughter Autumn Lawson (Darrin) of Inman, SC; his four grandchildren Molly and Wyatt McGarity, Gabrielle Trebilco, and Garrison Lawson; and his niece Penny Bridges of Chesnee, SC. He was predeceased by his sister Peggy Bridges.
Forrest worked as the plant manager of Detroit Forming of Fairforest, SC, for twenty-five years.
He was an avid peach farmer and approached everyday on the farm with zest and optimism. He loved his family and particularly enjoyed attending the ball games and recitals of his daughters and grandchildren. He took great pride in belonging to the community of Cooley Springs and Chesnee and enjoyed drinking coffee and debating politics, the stock market, and college sports with the guys at the local gas station and restaurant. In the last few years of his illness, he loved spending time with long-time friends, as well as at a local senior center where he took great interest in the lives of residents and workers alike.
His family will remember him with deepest affection for his commitment to his church, his pride in his community, his love for his neighbors and friends and co-workers, his passion for peach farming, and especially for his dedication to his family.
