Eleanor “Peanut” Katherine Ledbetter, 79, widow of Henry Gene Ledbetter, Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 5:55 p.m. at the Hospice House, Spartanburg, SC. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born August 18, 1944, in Randolph, Maine, Eleanor was the beloved daughter of the late Ralph and Eleanor Austin. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Hubbard.
Eleanor was a graduate of Spartanburg Community College and earned her nursing certification. She had a passion for nursing and worked over 25 years as a geriatric nurse, affectionately caring for “her babies,” as she called them. She concluded her career after many years of providing compassionate care for the healthcare needs of many elderly in the upstate community. Her warm smile and kind heart touched the lives of everyone she met. Eleanor enjoyed cooking large meals and feeding whoever would walk through the door. She loved reading and decorating, with her favorite pastime being to repurpose items and treasures she found at local thrift stores and pass them along to family and friends in need.
She is survived by her children: Lisa Ann Fowler of Chesnee, SC, Henry Gene (Cindy) Ledbetter of Vinemont, Alabama, Anthony Craig (Jodie) Ledbetter of Woodruff, SC, Mary Ada Ledbetter of Boiling Springs, SC, and Timothy Mark (MiKung) Ledbetter of Gales Ferry, CT.; sisters, Ruth Brown, Marion Greene, Jeannine Abbot; brothers, Jim Austin, Claude Austin. Eleanor also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a special niece, Sarah Ratliff. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2024 in the chapel of Harris-Nadeau Mortuary with Gene Burgess officiating and Adreinne Kay singing. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House of Spartanburg in her honor.
Though she may no longer be with us in person, Eleanor’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. May she rest in peace.
