Dewitt and I were classmates at Chesnee High, graduating class of 1952. Once, in 10th grade, I think, he was teasing me and I threw a book at him, not meaning to hit him. He was very short then, and the book caught him in the face and bloodied his nose. I felt terrible and apologized; he, being he kind soul that he was, forgave me instantly and we remained friends. The last time I saw him was several months after graduation , in the Community Cash grocery and he had grown taller by at least 12 inches or more.

I am saddened to learn of Dewitt's death. He was a good man and always kind and caring. He was always funny and quick witted. May your memories bring you peace and may God Bless you all during this time and beyond!
