Alvaro Fernandez, Sr. 91, husband of Maria Chaves Fernandez, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024 at his home.

Born April 28, 1932 in Colombia, South America, he was a son of the late Hernando Gomez and Tulia Fernandez. He served in the Colombia Armed Forces, was a Tool and Die Maker by trade and was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.  

Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Al Fernandez and wife Paula, Ricardo Fernandez; daughters, Diana Fernandez, Julie Ramey and husband David; grandchildren, Nicholas Wilbanks, Sophia Johnson and great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Ripley “Lola”.

The family will host a visitation from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Harris-Nadeau Mortuary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 in the Historic Church of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. David Whitman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
